Only traditional materials are used for this Japanese sword’s fittings. The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel), are expertly made and finely crafted from black iron. The Habaki (blade collar) is hand made out of polished brass, and the hilt is covered in Samé (ray skin) and tightly wrapped in the traditional style with black cord. A beautiful brass Menuki (a small, ornamental sculpture inserted between the ray skin and the cord wrappings on the handle) enhances the sword’s aesthetic appearance and makes for a sword that is very traditional looking. Features a fully sharpened 1050 carbon steel blade with a blood groove that is heat treated to a spring temper. The blade surface has been hand polished with a distinctive mirror polish. Includes a black lacquered scabbard. Measures 27 5/8 inches overall with a 21 1/8 inch blade.

Sakura's own. Imported from Japan. Reproduction of traditional Samurai Shoto Wakizashi short sword. One of our best sellers for display and / or fundamental training in Iaido, Kenjutsu, swordsmanship. This Sword can be disassembled to 8 pieces for cleaning and study. Highly polished unsharpened alloy blade features classic Hamon wave line and 3/4 Tang. Black lacquered and flecked Saya scabbard is hand crafted out of wood and inspected for proper fit to the blade. Tsuka handle is hand wrapped and tied in the traditional manner with braided nylon wrap over ornate Menuki and faux Same Ray skin textured pieces. Tsuka is attached to the blade with a bamboo pin and can be removed for disassembly. Sageo retaining cord also made of braided nylon is tied to the Saya in a formal display knot. Tsuba hand guard, Menuki, and other metal fittings are cast in metal and with black and antiqued finish to compliment the design of the sword. Weapon Specifications: Sword sheathed measures about 27.5 inches and weighs about 1.5 pounds. Unsheathed it measures about 25.25 inches and weighs about 1.25 pounds. Blade measurement from Kissaki tip to Tsuba hand guard is about 18.75 inches. Tsuka handle is about 6.75 inches. Mune spine is slightly peaked and measures about 7/16 of an inch wide. Blade does not have blood groove and cannot be sharpened. This sword comes with a Katana Fukuro bag case for Wakizashi / Shoto. This high quality wakizashi is specifically designed for cutting and advanced drawing practice and has a classical design. The sharpened 21 inch blade is differentially tempered (HRC60 edge, HRC40 back) with a genuine wave hamon. The 6 3/8 inch handle features genuine rayskin with tightly woven cotton wrap, a long tang, and double mekugi for security. The fuchi and kashira feature a family emblem motif. The authentic iron tsuba features a wave design that represents museum-preserved originals and compliments the hamon and brass habaki, while the menuki represent the traditional Japanese Sakura (cherry blossom) flower.
