The original oil painting from which this print was reproduced from was very well liked by the late Japan Karate Association (JKA) chief instructor Masatoshi Nakayama - a direct student of Gichin Funakoshi and author of the Karate Kata, Best Karate series, and Dynamic Karate, books. For a while, the original oil painting was displayed at the original headquarters of the Japan Karate Association in Tokyo Japan as well as many other prominent Karate Dojo and events around Japan and Okinawa. Years ago, the original oil painting was displayed at the grave site of Gichin Funakoshi on the anniversary of his death each year.
